Looking for an internship at a job fair can be an overwhelming experience. As a student at North Carolina A&T State University aspiring to kickstart my career, I went to the fall career fair intent on finding a summer internship. Little did I know I would eventually find myself an internship at Encompass that would change the course of my professional career.

I left the career fair without a single business card or an ounce of confidence that I would get a callback. I couldn’t figure out what I did wrong and why none of the employers had shown a true interest in me as they had the previous year. After a couple of days, I weighed out my options for summer employment and knew that I had to keep trying. But enough was enough: I visited the career services website of another local college, and it turned out that they would be hosting a career fair in just a few days.

This couldn’t be just a lucky break. I knew I had to keep up the momentum, really shine and give it another go. I researched all of the visiting companies on the list so that I would be fully prepared, and as I did so one company, in particular, stood out to me. This company was based in Greensboro, NC, where I lived even before college. They promoted a business culture of a start-up feeling with the stability of a long-term company. This was Encompass Solutions, and they offered much of what I was interested in: Project Management, ERP Implementation, Consultation, Customized Solutions. Their focus on really researching their clients, getting to know what they were facing from top to bottom, well, lined up perfectly with my own.

Finally, the career fair opened and I had my second chance to get it right. Fully prepped with my research beforehand, I approached the booth of Encompass Solutions and I was greeted by a developer from the company. He readily explained to me what type of interns they are looking for and I was immediately excited: he was able to talk about the real technical stuff. The developer’s energy got me even more excited about the company. I had more companies to speak to that day, however, but my few minutes with Encompass were the clear high point of the day.

I left the fair feeling the exact opposite of how I felt at the end of the last one. I felt confident I would be contacted by one of the companies, but when I received a follow-up email asking when I would be available to do a phone interview from Encompass, I was overjoyed. After a week I had my phone interview with both the COO and the CEO of Encompass. The whole time I was thinking, “Wow, they’ve pulled out the top executives to interview me!” It was clear they were invested at every level their company operated in.

The offer email came the next day. I immediately accepted and began my internship at Encompass in November. This was 8 months before summer! I never expected to have the opportunity to start an internship in November.

My Internship At Encompass

Day one of my internship with Encompass Solutions had finally arrived. I put on my best outfit and arrived about 15 minutes early. I was determined to show them that they made a great choice. When I arrived at Encompass I was welcomed with open arms. Everyone was very helpful and willing to help me with anything I needed. The atmosphere is truly like a start-up that houses developers, sales, accounting, and operations.

Fast-forward 6 months later and without hesitation I can say that my time at Encompass Solutions was one of the best experiences out of all of my internships. I’ve learned and polished so many great skills during my run there. I’ve enhanced my team building, communication, and problem-solving skills. I’ve also had the opportunity to learn new skills such as Epicor, Microsoft Reporting Services, and C#. During my internship at Encompass, they truly helped me learn industry-standard skills. The CEO and COO are two of the friendliest people I have ever met. I really wouldn’t change a thing about Encompass. Their willingness to bring me on and help craft my skills was a truly humbling experience and I am thankful for them!

What does it take to run a marathon? Beyond the shoes designed to perfect a runner’s stride, the clothing that frees movement and creates comfort, a diet of both quick and long-lasting energy, and mental preparation, there’s hours and hours of training, exercise, form drills, cardio, weights and more. All these months and months of hard work build towards an event that lasts just hours. An ERP system can be compared to a marathon runner in many ways.

The ERP System Marathon

Your ERP system is going to be running for more than just hours, yet the marathon runner comparison is worth considering. This is because an Epicor / Encompass ERP system can take things even further. Imagine a runner not only being perfectly trained and prepared for the run ahead but also having the ability to upgrade or change their shoes midstride. Not only this but also clothing that adapts to the weather to protect from rain or temperature. Add the benefit of nourishment to instantaneously energize their body and invigorate their muscles when the miles become tiring.

Planning is just one half of a system built for longevity; adaptation is the other.

Maybe you’re already starting to experience longevity problems with your existing ERP system. Do any of these sound familiar?

  • Your system is no longer supported. The tech is outdated, there are no more upgrades, and IT support is nonexistent.
  • Your company has expanded, grown, merged, or acquired, and your current system can’t scale.
  • Changing costs, goals, or structures necessitate moving funds away from IT systems and into other areas of the business.
  • An inflexible system is not allowing you to offer more or enhanced services or keeps your company from being agile and responsive.

These, in running terms, would be the twisted ankles, the worn-out shoes, the insufficient training, or the bad weather that slows you down. All these detriments can eat away at your personal best time or, even worse, cause you to drop out of the race altogether.

An ERP System To Go The Distance

The tools we create support the business and drive it forward; they don’t serve as a hurdle to be cleared. A solid ERP system with expert implementation will improve your company’s performance across the board with access to accurate data and seamless integration of all of your business’ systems. Combined with flexibility, scalability, and customized solutions, you will be in it for the long haul.

An Epicor / Encompass system is built with both decades worth of experience, bringing the training you need to run the marathon, and the latest technology, pushing you ahead of the competition, over the ever-changing landscape of your business, and across the finish line.

if only henry ford had the benefits of epicor social enterprise

If Henry Ford and Thomas Edison had your email inbox, we’d probably ride horses to work and read our reports by candlelight.  Information is the brain fuel of our businesses, that much is true.  However, email, unnecessary meetings, and worse – constant interruptions – have turned that fuel into the business equivalent of the Twinkie.  You can live on Twinkies, but it’s not a good life. This is where Social Networking for ERP really shines. It reclaims your inbox, cleans the fluff out of your calendar, and allows you and your teams that ultimate modern luxury – Focus.  Below are two ways Epicor Social Enterprise will rock your business world. Want to know more about Epicor Social Enterprise? Get in touch using the contact us button below.

Focus – Epicor Social Enterprise Delivers Faster Results With Fewer Emails

Epicor Social integrates the most valuable features of social networking right into your ERP system. This means your activity stream built into Epicor shows you what you need to know, when you need it, exactly where you need to see it in order to do your job effectively.  Have a hot customer order that needs special babysitting?  Follow it. Concerned about your new product launch?  Track #MySuperAmazingProject using hashtags. Use callouts to send a question to the quality control team or accounting and bring them into the dialog.

The point is that Epicor Social gets work out of your inbox and back into the ERP system where the real work happens, anyway. Everything is linked.  Everyone that needs to be involved is involved. And everything has a context, so you jump right from the discussion into the Epicor record and do the work that needs to be done. Vitamin F(ocus) is a good thing.

Innovation – Let The Creative Juices Flow With Epicor Social Enterprise

If information is the brain fuel of your business, innovation is the lifeblood. Innovation is what allows you to respond to changing customer needs and position yourself successfully in a crowded marketplace. Innovation is amazing.

The problem?  Innovation is also tough.  You need geniuses, but they’re in short supply.  What most businesses have instead is an untapped collective pool of experience and ideas spread across the entire team and no way to harness it.

Epicor Social is the Juice-O-Matic that taps into your team’s creative juices. Does Sales love the idea?  Super. What does manufacturing say?  Bring those voices together, comment, vote, and move on. Companies that embrace social networking in ERP typically see an upswing in innovation, shorter process and decision times, better profits, and more on-time projects.  That’s how you measure lifeblood, and that’s what Epicor Social brings to your business.

Ford and Edison understood focus, collaboration, and innovation. So does Epicor. Let us know how we can help you evaluate Epicor Social tools and help you get out of your inbox and back into your business today.

ERP has been around for almost as long as the internet, pagers and bag phones helping businesses standardize processes, increase efficiency and sales through access to data. Epicor ERP has been able to keep pace with the changing needs of businesses (that bag phone was a little clunky) and has incorporated social business functionality reflecting the way employees are incorporating technology into their personal lives. According to Nick Castellina of Aberdeen Group “organizations that have implemented this approach to ERP saw over twice the improvement in profit margins over the past two years of organizations that have not implemented social ERP.”

The key benefit of Social ERP is collaboration. This goes for organizations that are housed in one building or across the globe. As we all know, Al Gore single-handedly invented the internet but in most cases, collaboration is extremely beneficial to a business. Allowing employees access to data with the necessary tools and infrastructure is the first step to this collaboration. Once employees have the data the next step is to analyze the data (independently and collaboratively) and create a pathway to turn this robust information into a plan that can benefit your business.

Social ERP in Epicor can take many forms including the ability to tag conversations, products, projects, customers, equipment, etc. This collaboration creates a central location where all stakeholders can easily access current information and over time you create a database allowing you to avoid previous mistakes and learn and continuously improve with more efficient processes, higher quality products, and services, better profit margins.

The Benefits Of Social ERP

Here are a few stats compiled by Aberdeen Group regarding businesses that have incorporated Social ERP:

  • A decrease in decision-making time of 28% versus 21% for those without social ERP.
  • A decreasein business processes time of 11% versus 9% for those without social ERP.
  • Met internal schedules 95% of the time versus 90% for those without social ERP.
  • Had employees that exceeded performance metrics 58% versus only 36% for those without social ERP.
  • Over the 2 years these statistics have been gathered, Businesses improved profit margins 19% versus 9% for those without social ERP.

The stats are clear (bag phones were good but smartphones are better). Social ERP increases collaboration, efficiency, and profits. Contact us today about implementing a social ERP solution for your business.

The Benefits Of Working With An ERP Provider

This sounds ridiculous on the surface, yet most of us are guilty of attempting to do it all on a daily basis. When it comes to working, it is easy to become distracted by the things that are not the focus. This includes everything from accounting, marketing, facilities management, human resources, technology or a hundred other things. On occasion, we all have an epiphany and realize we would be better off letting those who are experts do what they do best. Not only does it take the burden off of you to learn how to do yet another job, but it also allows you to focus on what you do best. In this case, the contractor will typically execute quicker, more efficiently and cost-effectively than you could have. In addition, experts can see the future (except for Beck winning a Grammy. Nobody saw that coming – especially not Kanye), avoiding pitfalls and putting a system or process in place that enables growth. This will allow you to maximize your investment in the areas that fall outside of your expertise but are needed for growth. Below is an outline that will help you determine if you need to work with an ERP provider and how to get the most out of your vendor, specifically your certified Epicor Platinum Partner and ERP provider.

This winter has delivered much snow to practically every state, including recent snowfall in North Carolina where our headquarters are located. I love the way the snow looks when it has first fallen covering streets, cars, yards and buildings with a sparkling white blanket, covering up all imperfections making practically any landscape a picturesque winter scene. As we all know eventually the blanket melts and returns us to the reality of our environment. In business, the beautiful snow blanket takes the form of apathy, resistance to change, misunderstanding or even a simple lack of expertise or knowledge. This blanket is a natural occurrence for most businesses and is even to be expected, but every once in a while you need to break out the shovel and dig down to the real issues and fix them before they become worse. As experts in ERP consulting and support, we offer assessments and solutions for your ERP. Our ERP assessment findings can get under that pretty blanket that has covered up problems and inefficiencies and brings them to light so they may be uncovered and a strategy put in place to solve them.

What is an ERP Assessment?

An ERP assessment considers the software configuration and setup, the business processes in place as well as areas of opportunity with modules, features, and functionality that may not currently be in use. Analysis may identify betters to leverage existing and unused functionality as well as streamlining or revisiting business processes that may not be fully effective. In addition, an assessment will evaluate the benefits of an upgrade to current releases, or implementation of new functionality where appropriate.

Why Is ERP Assessment Important?

Assessments are essential not only to guide the development of individual ERP strategies but also to monitor and continuously improve the quality of your ERP, inform leadership and staff, and provide evidence of accountability to those invested in an ERP such as Epicor. As Epicor ERP consultants we do assessments on many types of businesses for many markets. The assessments may be done across an entire company, business unit, or even to address a specific departmental or functional focus. Many times assessments may be requested or suggested due to an impression that new functionality or upgrades need to be evaluated, that business needs have changed, there has been staff turnover or even considerations of advances in technology. Recommendations and preliminary plans will be provided.

What does an ERP Assessment Involve?

Each assessment will be customized to meet your specific business objectives but typical Encompass Solutions ERP assessments include the following:

2-3 day onsite survey review of business and requirements (necessary for context) and includes:

  • Current System Configuration
  • Business process and transaction review
  • Company objectives and direction
  • Interviews with functional team leads and relevant management
  • Analysis of implementation progress (complete and remaining efforts)
  • Open issue review
  • Deliverables will include results and our recommendations:
  • Documented strengths/weaknesses of the current system
  • Feature/function training opportunities
  • Business processes requiring review and potential revision
  • System configuration suggestions
  • Additional functionality / modules / features to increase ROI
  • Upgrade process and benefits
  • Presentation back to client team summarizing findings with opportunity for draft review and discussion
  • Final assessment presentation including estimated costs where applicable

Contact us to get assessed and start uncovering the path to improvement.
